A look from the Maison Margiela Artisanal spring 2017 collection. Photo: Imaxtree |
We've already covered the jaw-dropping beauty look by visionary Pat McGrath, and we'd expect nothing less to accompany this spring 2017 collection, which the house of Margiela calls "artisanal." It was the sort of collection only John Galliano could dream up. Since he joined the mysterious fashion house in 2015 after a long absence from fashion design, we've watched him put more of himself into each range as his confidence rises, and this seemed to be an amazingly wacky culmination of that.
The most memorable look will surely be the above white coat dress with a massive, jaw-dropping tulle face. Galliano used a face motif throughout the collection (and in the beauty look) that in many instances looked Picasso-esque. The deconstruction Galliano has employed throughout his Margiela tenure was also present in pieces like a coats and dresses that looked more like the outlines of the garments they were intended to be. But subversiveness aside, the collection also included some truly beautiful gowns.
Most of them are probably a little too edgy for any of this year's awards season starlets, so we'll have to settle for seeing them on the runway, which you can do in the gallery below.
