No hairstyle screams summer more than beachy waves. But it can require time and effort to achieve effortless looking beach waves — and who wants to spend a bunch of time with their hot tools when the weather is scorching outside? (No one, that’s who.) To make your life easier, we’ve rounded up seven easy tips to help you achieve the beachy hair of your dreams.
Dry Your Hair With a T-Shirt
You want messy beach waves, not frizzy ones. A T-shirt will soak up just as much water as a towel, but won't cause friction-induced frizz.
Use a Salt Spray Directly on Your Roots
It's tempting to just douse your hair in
sea salt spray and hope for Victoria's Secret-esque hair. Unfortunately, life doesn't work that way. To get the most out of your salt spray, section off your hair and spritz it directly on roots.
Rough Dry Your Hair With Fingers
The beauty of beachy hair is that it's messy and rough drying your hair can help you bring out the natural texture in your hair. This creates a solid base for adding waves with a curling iron or, if you have naturally wavy hair, will give you insta-beach waves.
Learn to Love Mousse
Mousse gets a bad rap but the mousses of today are nothing like your grandma's. A
curl-enhancing mousse can bring out waves and texture in your hair and will make your beachy hair last. (Read: You don't have to use half a can of hairspray.)
Create No-Heat Curls With Baby Wipes
Fold a baby wipe into thirds then roll a section of hair up it until it reaches your roots. Tie it off and continue around the rest of your head. The best part: You can do this on dry hair since baby wipes are already damp.
Try This Twist on Braids
For superfast beach waves, divide your hair into four sections and braid each section. Run a flat iron over the braids and let your hair cool. When you let them out, you'll be met with effortless, mermaidy hair.
Sleep in Buns
Apply a mousse to damp hair, then divide it into four sections. Twist each section from ends to roots, then form into a bun. Pin the bun in place, go to sleep and wake up with beachy hair.
