When Rihanna was announced as the recipient of the 2016 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award for Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, we knew were in for a sartorial treat. And the pop star did not disappoint. She performed total of four times on the Madison Square Garden stage, showcasing not only how versatile she is as a performer, but as a style savant as well. 

"When it comes to fashion and style, she makes it seem so effortless," saidDrake when he presented Rihanna with the anticipated accolade. He'sso right, too, and we have every outfit that she wore to this year's VMAs below to prove it.

In addition to RiRi, fashion's favorite color made a show-stopping appearance during the awards show's opening performance. Hood by Air created custom looks for Rihanna (and her dancers) inspired by the brand's spring 2017 "men's couture" show, including a "Cookie Ringer" T-shirt bodysuit —currently for sale — dyed a special "Tumblr Pink" shade. Stylist Mel Ottenbergpaired the outfit with Comme des Garçons shoes and Cutler and Grosssunglasses.

READY FOR THE DANCEHALL

Rihanna's second performance was a mash-up of Caribbean-inspired tracks, like "Work," "What's My Name?" and "Rude Boy." Her outfit was fashionably fit for a night at the dancehall, too, including the white T-shirt worn with a durag, tailored trousers with army-green fishnets peeking through, crystal-strap heels, and a bra with fur trim in, yet again, pink.

With tracks like "Needed Me," "Pour It Up" and "Bitch Better Have My Money" slated for Rihanna's third performance, a high fashion, underground club-worthy look was the only option. And who better to turn to than the coolest brand on the block? We spotted a few spring 2017 collaboration piecesby Vetements on the bad gal, including hip-high boots by Manolo Blahnik and bedazzled velvet gloves by Juicy Couture.

Introduced by Mary J. Blige, Rihanna's final performance included such ballads as "Stay" and "Love On the Brain." With so much fashun from her last three appearances, the award-winning performer might as well go out with a bang, right? Case in point: haute couture by Alexandre Vauthier. (You know, the French designer who made Bella Hadid a breakout star at Cannes withthat red dress.) For Rihanna, it was a tan and silk collared gown with a grommet belt and matching shoes from the label's fall 2016 couture collection. And with an all-white stage design as the singer's backdrop, all eyes were on her at the end of the night. As they should be.
